DNS propagation is the time it takes for DNS changes to spread across global DNS servers. When you update a DNS record, the change needs to reach all resolvers worldwide – this typically takes 1-48 hours.

Each DNS resolver caches records independently. Servers with stale caches will show old values until the TTL (Time-to-Live) expires. Lower TTLs mean faster propagation.

It depends on the TTL of the record. Most changes propagate within 1-4 hours. Records with high TTLs (e.g., 86400 = 24 hours) take longer.

Your browser and local DNS resolver cache old records. Try clearing your browser cache, flushing your OS DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns on Windows, dscacheutil -flushcache on macOS), or wait for the TTL to expire.

Lower the TTL of the record before making changes – ideally to 300 seconds (5 minutes) at least 24 hours in advance. After the change is confirmed globally, you can raise the TTL back to a normal value.
